Has the responsible AI ecosystem slowed in recent years? The growth curve point to yes, but it could be temporary as GenAI ramps the industry back up again. Here's why:
Safety and transparency are close to top of mind. Enterprises are surprisingly not implementing GenAI solutions in a "build fast and break things" mindset, but are instead deliberate about how trustworthy and data-private these solutions are.
Innovation is not localized to improving existing infrastructure. While a lot of recent research focuses on enablement (faster fine-tuning, new models, etc.), there is a large body of innovation around trustworthiness (accuracy, hallucinations), security, and data privacy.
GenAI control products are still nascent, but gaining momentum. Many startups within the RAI space have released products within the last six months, so it may take some time before there is widespread adoption. We might even see a boom as new GenAI safety solutions come to the forefront with products founded from better research.
